The Amercaine, part of the Tank line, was introduced in the late 80s as a modern take on the Cintree. Mainly, it was fitted with a thicker case but, for the most part, shares a lot of similarities with the Cintree. 

For most of its life, the model was produced in only precious metals. Throughout that time, you had some models with chronographs and other complications, even a tourbillon. Not until 2017 did Cartier introduce the first steel model for the 100th anniversary of the Tank.

Now, the Americaine might not have the rich history other models in the Cartier lineup have, but that doesn't mean it's not a great watch. For the ones who love the tank but need more presence when it comes to size, this is a better option than just going for a much larger Tank. It still has the same diameter as a classic tank but with a thicker profile and elongated case, the watch wears larger.
